Damn. You are getting nowhere with that thing.

Did they do the install? I wonder if they crushed the pump when they put it back together. How are the shifts?

If you undo the flex plate bolts, you should be able to push the converter back 1/2" or so and turn the flex plate to inspect it. Beyond that, you'll need to pull it I guess if you think that's the issue. Maybe there is debris in the pan or the filter? Check that as well.

Sorry dude.

The probably didn't use loctite on the TC bolts. It may have cracked the flex plate.

yes they did the entire install, and I'm not about to take it back to them. Worst case scenario I do have to pull the flexplate, does the trans need full dropped or just unbolted and moved to side?

Shifts feel great, that's why I took it back this last time to have them re adjust the tv cable and make overdrive kick in lower speed

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

I apparently didn't need loctite on the bolts. I at least didn't use the permanant loctite (272) on those bolts. I pretty much put a torque wrench on every bolt I could find a spec for, so I would have be fine. Oh well.

The person, who I sold the engine from the Syclone I parted out, did not tighten the flex plate bolts properly. After 50 miles of driving, the flex plate bolts loosened up and cracked the flex plate. At the time I saw recommendations to use loctite, so that stuck in mind and is what I did so I wouldn't repeat the same mistake.

I hope one of these work, I checked on YouTube for cracked flexplate and it seems I'm having the exact sound.

Jack the truck up and drop the torque converter cover plate, you should be able to easily figure out if the flywheel or torque converter bolts are loose.

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

I don't hear anything except a nasty exhaust leak.

The lower covers are structural on a S/T series. The cover stiffens the case. That's why they're cast aluminum, and installed with 10mm bolts. You should find it, and put it back on.

I've aearched for a exhaust leak originally and that's when i put the truck up in the air and found its coming from converterish area. I have the cover sitting on my work bench, I'll be sure to put it back on when I get this issue resolved.

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

well made it to the meet today.. I got back home and put it right up on jackstands.. I un-bolted the 3 convertor bolts.. pushed the convertor back, and just as I expected.. there is a crack going all around the bolts that bolt the flexplate to the motor.. happy I found the issue, not happy I have to pull the trans again.. on top of that, the fuel pump on the teal ty decided to die today, so I have a walboro from TT on way.

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

so im still not done with the flexplate swap... because ive been fighting 2 stripped bolts that hold flexplate to crank.. first off, the 4 bolts I have gotten out, have been extremely tight.. I managed to get those out by just moving the trans back and getting a wrench on them.. these last two have been fighting me non stop. I ended up dropping the trans more, so now I can access the bolt heads above the transmission.. I stopped at sears today, and picked up the 5pc bolt out socket set, the guy swore up and down it would get them out.. well I been messing with them all night, the socket that's supposed to fit the 14 / 9/16 head will not fit on the bolt head.. ive tried beating it on with a hammer hard as I could and still will not go flush to get a good grab.. I tried the next size up which did grab till I applied enough torque where it almost broke free before it came off.. im running out of options here, I have a friend coming over with a welder tomorrow and were probly going to weld a socket to the heads, unless someone else has advice.. ive never had this big of a issue getting a bolt out, also they have been soaking in pb blaster since I first started this job.

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

No offense...but are you using air tools? Or hand tools? Did you take the trans completely out so you can actually sit down underneath the truck and hit them with an impact gun? Good luck man...

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

Finally finally finally got the thing out!! I got home today determined to get this thing out. I pulled my cheap flux core welder and gave that a shot welding a socket on, couldn't get enough weld On the bolt head, so sure enough socket came right off. Said screw it and took Davep advice with grinding the heads off the bolts.. I got this far threw it, stuck a socket on it and what do you know, threaded right out!! Could I get that lucky twice? Heck ya I did  so I take it the bolt head was seized to the flexplate causing most of my issue.

Here you can see how bad the flexplate is cracked around all the bolt holes

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

Nice work. Now, put it back in again so I can see what else makes you have to pull it out :D

(I feel your pain - have had my "indestructible" 80e out 3 times now. Hope you get it fixed soon)

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

Hopefully by late tomorrow night I'll have it back together again and running. I had a hell of a time with the upper trans bolts this time around to since I put solid motor mounts in.
