I had to go back to the drawing board on some of this. I realized a few weeks back that there are some things really holding me back here in spite of really not being that far from done. One is the rack and pinion. Two are the headers. I thought about just ditching the header iddea and rack n pinion and going back to stock on those. However, I quickly realized that going back to stock steering would require a new front diff housing. Thats what I get for not taking my time to make it a true bolt in. I was going to happily trade anyone for the stock set up or just buy all new shit.
I felt like a great had been lifted off me until I remembered that damn diff housing. So then I started to realize that since I'm stuck with the rack I am pretty much stuck with the headers. So I thought long and hard and came to the conclusion that I need to make a new set. This is number 3 here. I spent $900 on the first set, $ 800 on the second set (both were mild steel) and on this set, I have found smarter ways to buy, so I far I have spent $600. So I am now in the process of building another set of headers and these are stainless. I also have to have the radiator mount pump relocated an inch up as it hit the frame. I was going to notch the frame but then I came to my senses and had my neighbor move it for me.
Here is where I am on the headers, hope to be done in the next day or so.
I feel like this like pic shows I am doing the best job yet. I take the time to make some ****ed up cuts. Although with a band saw it makes life so much easier.

Made some progress, headers are done and now its time to start doing my initial button up. Think I'll for IC piping next, then exhaust. I have very little left to fabricate and after that it's nuts bolts and wiring.
BTW, mig welding stainless is a PITA!!!!!

Mike you may want to build yourself a turbo support bracket either off the head, or if your MM are sold to the frame. Mig'ed stainless welds will brake at the welds with a lot of heat and a Heavy turbo is going to make it worse. You can see mine a bit in this pic for referance Looking Good 4 sure

I was thinking about a doing something with heim joint or rod ends what ever you want to call them. I was looking at what you're doing but I feel like the tension would have to be perfect to keep it from having the same effect as not having anything. I don't know maybe I just suck at measuring:lol:

Mike, Looking at this photo I agree that turbo support is necessary. I don't care what the headers are made of. If this were me I would actually have 2 braces. One down and back to the motor mount pad on the block. And another over to, for example, one of the AC bracket bolt holes on the head. I'd be looking for triangulation between the turbo, and the two mount supports. I would NOT brace to the frame, even with solid mounts. Only the block or head, keeping everything as one unit so-to-speak. Rod ends might be a good idea only because there will be some movement as everything heats up. Rigid mounts would be fighting that movement. Then again maybe not enough to worry about.
As an example look at the bracing and attachments on stock alt and A/C mounts. GM would not do all that if it wasn't necessary.
Just my :2cents: after having taken care of, and fighting vibration in, big trucks for many years. I would not do it any other way.

Ive thought about that too only the t4 flange sits center with the edge of the front of the engine meaning there isn't a real easy way to do it. I had contemplated a big plate to hold it all and weld it to an intermediate t4 flange but I don't have the room. I do like the idea of using the accessory mounting holes but again, it's not a straight shot to the t4 flange.

It doesn't need to be a straight shot Mike. Just that it's braced. Looking at your picture I envision a brace coming off the head over the cross-over v-clamp to the upper rear of the turbo mount. Then a brace from the front motor mount bolt (it can be on top of the mount itself.) to the lower rear turbo mount should do it. All IMHO based on your pictures.
The way you have it shown going down to the frame just doesn't seem right. But that's just me. It might work just fine. Best of luck either way, heck of a setup.

Who made the Aluminum oil pan? What did you have to modify for clearance?

Oh thought it was just a sticker :lol:. I ordered a RPM Oil pan just makin sure any issues with Mikes Stef pan wasn't the same as RPMs pan.
