Wrecksurrection

Well, as some of you know, I wrecked my TY last Sunday morning. I just got word yesterday from the insurance company that they will pay for the damage. Whew. I decided I am going to try and paint this bastard myself. I have never done it before and know about 10% of what it takes. I mean, I know what it takes but have never actually gone through so that really adds up to 10%.

I have always felt my compressor was too small so I am buying another one and will paint the entire truck. :rotf: I am hopeful with the amount of friends I have that own or work in body shops that I can get this done right the first time with very few to no mistakes. Here are pics of what I am working with

That is after the wreck, obviously. Today I had an hour or two to take stuff apart. I have gotten EVERYTHING apart that needs to be off. I made a junk pile and a pile of stuff I can keep. Here is how the truck ended up

Here is something I found bothersome. First off, my front bumper was literally untouched. So I think the frame should be fine, well I saw this and I am not sure if it was like this already but now my trans cooler look like it is moved inwards on the collision side. I have a good friend who is going to come by and measure up to see if the frame is ok. Luckily for me he has a frame straightening machine:lol:

Here are the junk piles

More to come. I am supposed to get my check Monday or Tuesday so as soon as it clears, I am going to order everything I need, go buy an air compressor and all of the necassary tools. I am hoping to have close to everything I need by next Saturday. I plan on taking about 2 to 4 weeks to get it back on the road again. Wish us luck:tup:

Re: Wrecksurrection

You don't need a huge compressor to paint your ty. Get a hvlp paint system and do it that way.Congrats on them not making your ty into a salvage titled one.You got some work ahead of you, good luck.

Re: Wrecksurrection

I'm interested in seeing how this goes. My Ty needs paint, and its pretty $$ to have it done. Red should be slightly easier than black, I'd imagine. Post lots of pics and tips! Good luck

Re: Wrecksurrection

NO ONE TOUCHES MY TY!!The only thing I have anyone else do to my truck is tires and alignment. Other than that, its hands off.

NORM, what is an HVLP paint system?

Tomorrow or Monday the cladding comes off. I really need to clean my garage first, it is a MESS. I also have a motor to remove, build and install all in the next weeks or so. Then I have a tranny to pull and re-stall TC, install header gaskets and a few other things. My plate is full. I feel like I may go nuts one of these days soon here. I have 3 Ty's to get up and running in less than a months time.

Re: Wrecksurrection

Finally made a little progress. I got my air compressor installed and a few things threw me for a loop but got it all worked out. So as soon as the wife's engine is back in I will start sanding her down. Here is the compressor I put in, f'in heavy is all I can say.

Re: Wrecksurrection

Nice looking compressor. I still haven't bit the bullet and decided what to buy for a compressor. Let us know how you like it.
