    8.5 rearend

Re: 8.5 rearend FYI.......If you get a disk brake rearend at a salvage yard, be sure to get the brakes with it. I knew this one was missing the calipers but I thought, "no biggie. I'll just pick some up" The core charge alone on the damn things is $50 apiece. Then the caliper...

    Newer style electrical cruise control

Re: Newer style electrical cruise control The style of cruise used on 88 thru 98 full size trucks will do what you are trying to do. The style used on the 99 and up will not, or at least it won't without a lot of doing. I learned this the hard way when I put the LS1 style motor in my old 94...

    4l80e conversion question

Re: 4l80e conversion question I went over to my shop this morning and I stood there thinking about what George said-how you have to install the trans and the t-case as a unit and have to tilt the front of the tranny down a lot to get them in there. I dropped a 4l80e from the transmission...

    4l80e conversion question

Re: 4l80e conversion question Ok thanks guys. I knew it wasn't going in separately. I am off work tomorrow and I plan on getting some of this stuff finished up. I think I am going to study on the crossmembers a little but I may go ahead and hack at least some of it out of there. I will let...

    4l80e conversion question

Re: 4l80e conversion question Thanks for the reply. Yes, you change the crossmember that supports the tranny-I bought the whole conversion kit that includes that crossmember. The crossmember I am talking about is farther toward the rear of the truck right next to the one that the torsion...

    4l80e conversion question

This question is for anyone who has put a 4l80 in a Ty. I am to the point on my Blazer project where I tried to test fit the transfer case and I can't get it to fit. It won't clear the crossmember enough to go into place. The crossmember I am talking about is the one that runs side to side...

    8.5 rearend

Re: 8.5 rearend I dont know for sure that it came from a 2wd because I didn't take it out of the vehicle, but the research I did indicated that the 2wd V6 with a 5spd would be 59" wide overall so thats what I searched for on car-part.com (a junkyard locator service) Evidently the 2wd with...

    8.5 rearend

Re: 8.5 rearend The rearend went right in-was a direct bolt in. I didn't have time to look at them a lot, but the Ebrake cables are different-not sure what it will take to make that work.

    8.5 rearend

I bought a 3.42 geared 8.5 inch rearend today for the Blazer project. It came from a 98 2wd V6 5 speed Blazer. It measures 59" hub to hud and 38.5" ctr to ctr of the spring pads. Looks like a direct bolt in. We should know tomorrow, I plan on slapping it in after work tomorrow. I am...

    center console question

Re: center console question Well, I got the Sy console, shifter and steering column today. Upon initial examination it appears it is all going to fit the Blazer just fine. There were some brackets welded to the floor of the Sy that the console and shifter mount to that I am thinking the...

    center console question

Are the center console and shifter in a Sy the same exact parts as the ones in a Ty? I need to do a floor shifter in my Blazer and I have found a factory setup from a Sy. Will it fit the Blazer floorpan etc? Thanks

Does the stock heatercore have a "reducer" in one of the tips?

Re: Does the stock heatercore have a "reducer" in one of the tips? Yes, running without the restrictor can cause strange noises, usually a gurgling sound, but I have seen lotsa weird noises over the yrs because of this.

    6 Liter Blazer project

Re: 6 Liter Blazer project Yes, I have a STS rearmount turbo kit that is actually for a late model Silverado-will have to fab up the piping and stuff. The motor and tranny I am using was in another truck I had and it was supercharged so it is a proven combination. I use a 2002 truck PCM to...

    6 Liter Blazer project

Re: 6 Liter Blazer project Yes, its a 4wd, but I am putting in an AWD T-case. I got the oil pan and mounts from TurboTime. I got the 4l80e conversion kit and the front driveshaft from George Blake. I don't have any coilpacks yet but it looks like they are going to hit the booster and the A/C...

    6 Liter Blazer project

I finally got off my tail and tore into the Blazer and took out the original motor and tranny. Today I set the new motor in for a trial fit. For those of you that don't know what I am attempting, I am putting a turbo 6 liter/4L80e into a S10 Blazer and using an AWD t-case. I already lowered...

    Towing with AWD?

Re: Towing with AWD? Ok, cool. I just assumed it was the Tcase that wasn't up to the task. I am talking about the Blazer I am building and it is going to have a built 4l80e so the tranny shouldn't be a prob. Sounds like the suspension if my main concern now. Thanks guys.

    Towing with AWD?

I have read that it is not advised to tow anything with the AWD setup a Sy/Ty uses. But what about when using the 4wd front differential setup where the front axle can be disengaged? The transfer case would not have any load on it that way. It should be Ok to tow a motorcycle and trailer...
