You are doing an incredible job!! I planned on bringing this gem to TN 4 days before you bought it but Bryan and I kept missing each other on calls. Have a quick question regarding the manifold bends; is it not possible to use a pipe bender and reduce the amount of required MIG welds? Just curious.
Keep up the excellent work. Hope to see a video of this truck scootin down the road.
who's/what header (make it yourself ) kit did you use/buy?. Looks pretty decent so far.

Two people, two places, responding to the same posts. Goodtimes
Thank you! Eviltwin has a bender, but it cant bend tube with real thin wall. It would just end up messing up the tubing.
Even if you could bend it perfectly, I am thinking the tubing would be "pinched" so to speak where the bends are.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Those are alot of welds and when they decide to come apart under all the pressure and heat, and it will, its usually not very good on the turbo when it does.I myself prefer a log style iron made header over the tube style just for the fact that it will hold up way longer under very harsh conditions and are way less of a headache. Besides that, the set up looks great and keep up the good work. Best of luck to you guys. Also, are you guys running the stock internals on the 5.3? If so, how much boost are you planning on running through it?
So what did you do for the gap in the colloector where the primaries meet?? Does that weld-up kit come with stars to insert or do you have to make your own?

i like how you say "and it will". Maybe your welds would but the last thing i am worried about are those bends. Also, making log manifolds are the cheap mans turbo headers. They dont flow nearly as much as headers and if anything they have consistant problems with cracking. They also look like crap compared to nice flowing headers. but to each his own.
no it doesnt. I just cut out some stars out of sheet metal i had laying around.

First off, please dont think that I was coming off as a dick, because in no way was I even trying too. Second, Trust me, they will come apart after a short period of time of running it hard. Third, I own several high end cars that are boosted and most likely out of your price range, let alone your dreams, and I do know that the tubular headers flow much better then a log style but you will not see that much of a difference in power. And as for the cracking, I would be willing to bet any amount of money that the tubular headers will break way sooner then any cast iron manifold. Please dont think that your smarter that what you actually are, although you are only 22 so you must know it all. Once again please dont think I was trying to be a dick. I was just trying to help out and I do think that your set-up looks great except for going with a 5.3l instead of a built 6.0l. But as you would say, "to each their own".

the man used what he had. if anything he could of bought a "donut" for that tight radius bend. but he has $180 into the headers.. some people spend more on flanges for their motors.
i think hes doing a hell of a job. hes building a bad a$$ ty, with a turbo charged 5.3. some of us on the board cant even change the plugs in our truck, let alone build a set of turbo headers.
at 22yo and building, what some of us consider our dream truck (syty with turbo v8), and your bashing him.
"Third, I own several high end cars that are boosted and most likely out of your price range, let alone your dreams, ...." that sounds like coming off like a dick to me.

dang puff daddy, no need to flare up.

I was never bashing him. What part of "keep up the good work" and "everything looks great" did you not understand ? He is a young kid and I was just trying to help him out so that he doesnt blow through a new turbo because of a weld coming lose and he took it the wrong way because he is a young kid that thinks that he knows everything. So please dont try making me out to be the bad guy because I was never trying to be one.
Anyways, let get this back on topic. Keep us posted on the project and best wishes:tup:.

Not trying to start anything but how would a weld blowing out take out a turbo? Its no different than a wastegate opening and relieving pressure..??? The turbo would just get less exhaust flow and therefore make less/no boost..

A piece of weld could break & take out the turbine wheel down stream. If that's what he was referring to?
Here is what a donut looks like. http://www.theboostdepot.com/index....facturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26
Viperracing, dont take it the wrong way,if you critique over here you are the bad guy,so, no more critiquing (SP) only compliments are welcome, everyone says I am hater before because I have given advise before.,They do not want to here it & nobody wants me here so I was told.
I have a better feeling about this build as long as he can keep the boost down & controll the urge to go higher boost. Plus taking the time & not in a rush.
As far as log manifolds go,they work very well,& have a place for turbo charging.
Guys have switched from running stock Sy/Ty manifolds & ran nice tubular headers & have not gained any performance.

We woud have used a donut like that but two of those would cost half of what we have into the headers total. Beleive me, if we could have ran a stock cast manifold facing forward we would have, but since we had to make some, headers were the best choice for us.
Also, telling me that the headers WILL blow apart in a short amount of time is not advise. Advise would have been, "You might want to look into strenghtening that bend so it doesnt crack under the exhauust pressure".

First off, i thiink that you were coming off as a dick. Second, there is not going to be any large amount of backpressure that would make the welds come apart. Third, Wow you must feel like a big man with all your fancy expensive cars. I dont care about how much the cars you own are. I am building my second dream vehicle already.
Another thing is that i dont know why everyone is stuck on me being 22. I will say that i dont know everything, there are a tom of people on here that know way more than i do. But I am out there didnt these things. Using the knowledge that i have. Everything that I have done i have taught myself.
Also a 5.3 is what the truck came with. Between paying my mortgage and buying parts for this and my syclone a 370 was not in the cards
