...I think...maybe...fuck it.

I sure hope not, you put a lot of work into putting that motor in. Is their something wrong with motor that I sold you? I am having a bad day so this would top it off!

nothing that I would blame on you or anybody on this board. I'm the fucktard. I was just telling E...there's only been two times in my life that I've actually considered...for longer than a passing thought...suicide. Today was/is #2.

There goes the Idea of buying that townhouse for my sister this summer.

It hasnt even gotten driven yet.
How could the motor be gone already?

Please elaborate, as painful as it may be.

towed it into the house...when you start it...there's a loud (deep) metal hitting metal sound...belt for accessories was shredded...so I took that off and cranked it (sound doesn't start to engine begins to catch) so I cranked it sans belt and sound is still there. I've had three other shade trees listen to it...and everyone of them cringed. Possibly it's the starter but everyone agreed that starters don't go like that.

Myclone...I know what your thinking...and maybe that was it. It's not your fault bud. Noway...no how. I couldn't get it on a stand to turn it over. So I trusted that you knew to do it. So that's the nearest we can figure...it's the crank slapping around.

Pour in some engine Restore

Seriously, does it sound like a rod bearing or valvetrain? Pull the drain plug and check for metal in the first bit of oil that comes out. If youfind some pull the engine back out.

If you didn't run it much there is a good chance many parts can be reused if cash is a big factor.
For example if it is a rod bearing you can prolly buy a crank a rod and a basic rebuild kit (bearings, oil pump, rings,) provided the block didn't sustain any damage. Clean everything and reassemble. I have a engine that spun a rod bearing that I did that exact thing with. Didn't touch the heads cleaned and reused the pistons. The only block work was breaking the glaze on the cylinder walls. Almost 100K later still runs great.
Depends on your budget and goals but you should be able to fix it relatively cheap if you don't plan to run faster than typical stock motor builds.

Couple of things..

Does the noise go away when the motor actually starts and the starter is no longer engauged or is it vice versa?

When did the noise start? As soon as you fired it or progressively got worse?

Check your TC to fly wheel bolts and flywheel to crank bolts. If they are the wrong kind/too long/loose they can hit the back of the block making one hellava racket.

The accessory belt was shredded huh? Hmmm.. About the only thing that can do that other than misaligned accessories is a broken crank. I dont see how its possible to break a crank just sitting there idling though?

FWIW. I turned the engine over by hand before I crated it up and gave each cyl a squirt of WD 40 then turned it over some more before finally installing some old spark plugs to seal the comb chamber as I didnt know how long the eng would be sitting around in the crate. Anyway, it turned over just fine then.

okay...so maybe I should just come out and say...IT HAD FUCKING 80 MILES ON IT...and get it over with...to me...in my current drunken state...it's like posting a dust covered baby stroller in the middle of NYC on Sept 11th with a big fat "owned" sticker on the picture...it's kinda tasteless to make jokes right now.

So let's recap:

I had a 93 Typhoon that I drove the piss out of for 10k miles...that gave me intermittent problems that made it have more down time than anything. So 10k miles (85k at sale) and 1.5 years later...I sold it to E-Rue..

I then arrived in Germany to find a 42k mile Syclone for sale w/ new motor. I drove it for 300 miles till it died. 10 months later I finally got new motor #2 in ...and it looks like it's dead after 80 miles.

Suicide...make sure you go with the grain...not against it...you bleed more.

Dave,
Remember your history.
The trans. could have broken the crank

Sigo,
Are you sure you weren't in ALDL mode?

Enjoy the beer and remember it is only a minor setback. At least you don't have a bad temper and didn't set the truck on fire or somethin.

don't know what to say...

Dave...I'll come out and say it...

I was jumping on it from 60mph - 80mph listening to the turbo whine wondering about a vacuum leak in traffic on the 'bahn. It was wrapped up to 4'gs just prior. Don't know if that helps diagnose.

Either way I think it's dead.

It's just a truck settle down.
It's not the end of the world.

I know the outlook may be grim, but just think...
Next time you pull the motor, it won't be the first time.
And you will get a little better at it each time. :D

Maybe next time will be the Race Proven Motor with forged pistons and some real rods.
Why keep beating your head against the wall with stock engines?

Sit back have a few drinks, go get some lovin, and think about how stupid it really is. Its a stupid hunk of metal, nothing more.

I sure hope my trans ends up running smoother than your motor did

Perhaps, the accessory belt could have been install off by a rib on one of the accessories.

Ryan, don't do anything rash. Sleep on it and look over the problem with clear head.

The shitty thing about drinking your problems away - they are still there when you wake up AND you have a headache.

I'm going for a cocked up alternator.
