Keep a fire extinguisher reallllllllllll close  Just in case. Other then that I would double check all the important stuff that could easily blow off/leak. (I.E.- Radiator hoses, fuel rails, injectors, etc.) Make sure there's nothing in the way of the front pulley system too. I'm sure you already know this stuff  FIRE HER UP!!!

Double check all you fluids.... if you can hook up TunerPro, or DM to log coolant temp, etc., may be a good idea.... not sure what gauges you have. Be careful, have fun, and take some pics! :D

Re: my small project

turned it over and I saw flames....
JK.... The first tfew times I went to start it it would just click. volt meeter shower 12volts so I put in on the charger longer and checked the starter.
after that it turned over. :woot: well sort of. I let it idle for 10 seconds and shut it off. Oil pressure was 60psi, fp was 32 psi.... Everything looked ok but it had a loud squeak in the engine and I could hear the rockers tick louder then before? I saw a bit of white smoke comming off engine. I checked the fluids. topped them off. Trans sucked about a 1/2 gallon. Guess the computer is working??
Started it up again for another 10 seconds. No smoke this time. Noises was still there. Noticed how loud it sounds sitting in my garage with no muffler :D
This time it started to die. Had to tap the gas to keep it going. Noticed the vac pressure was low but it was strugling to run. Shut it down. Jacked it up and saw no leaks yet. The noises up front have me concerned. The squeaking sounds like a ps pump or watter pump going bad but they are new. ?? any thoughts. I am off to the Giants/ A's game so i will see how it does tomorow.

Tesioner or idler pulley?

Remove the belt & turn everything by hand to see if anything feels funny or squeaks.

Start it without the belt to see if squeak is still present.

everything is new. replaced both pulleys. Could be the fact everything is new. Also remembered the tan wire is unpluged so i can check the timming. Could be why the engine is running crapy. I will start it again tomorow.

Re: my small project

:woot: :woot: That's awesome. I bet the louder then usual rockers is because the oil hadn't reached there yet after 10 seconds; or you just haven't heard your truck run in a long time :rotf: You should check all the bolts for the brackets holding the alternator, tensioner, anything up front to see if it's misaligned and causing the squeek. You must be excited right now, I know I would be after this long

gjp,

Was reading through your post. After seing all the work you have done to the truck sweet. Just a question are you running bigger injectors because you will be needing them for the increase in air flow. A larger injector is being safe, if they are too small it will be too late.

Some helpful advise.

I was pushing the stock injectors with the stock engine and the stage 1 turbo. going to a 3 bar and chip it made sense to go with bigger injectors. The 50# injectors were priced good from someone on this site. with the new heads and larger turbo I will need the larger injectors more.

not to worried about the noises yet. I will pull one cover just to make sure it all looks ok under there. when i primed the oil pump I saw oil comming out the pushrods. I will take it slow. I am in no rush at this point to drive it.

Re: my small project

sorce of smoke is from a leaking ps pump. A new pump is leaking at the seam. The fittings look fine. I have to pull it to see where the leak is comming from. Thanks Napa.

I have oil pressure but when I removed the oil fill and looked into it while the engine running I seen no oil comming out the pushrods. This has me worried. It was spitting out oil when I primed the system. I show oil pressure?? what gives. Any ideas.

EDIT: after using the search button i found this is normal for the squeaking and lack of oil on startup. I will try to squirt oil on the rockers till the engine fully primes up.

Also have a check engine light but I still dont have the timming wire connected yet.

Re: my small project

mine are dry but the truck only has been running for a total of a 60 seconds or so. I have to pull the PS pump. its leaking on the x-over pipe and smoking.

Make sure that the distributer is engaged into the oil pump all the way. Pull out the distributer and prime it with the drill setup you used again. Depending on what happens you can narrow it down. For example, if it's still dry then something happened to the pump or a passage got clogged with debris. I know a lot of guys like to tac weld the pickup to the pump. That "dry" situation but a reading on the pressure gauge doesn't look good.
