Project Garnet Resto

Re: Project Garnet Resto

Not much new. Body is back off the frame so they can paint the underside. Took the frame to my dads so we can get the brake and fuel lines finished and drop in the engine and trans. Body work is pretty much done. He's saying the body paint should be done in 2-3 weeks, then another week for the cladding.

Re: Project Garnet Resto

Got a few small things done this weekend. Have to reorder the motor mounts. They somehow got lost in my dads garage. Engine and trans should be sitting in the frame by weeks end.

Fuel tank is in.

Racetronix dual 340 in tank fuel pump assembled. Now I just have to figure out how to squeeze this ****er into the tank.

Re: Project Garnet Resto

Got the engine and transmission dropped in the frame this week. Was finally able to maneuver the fuel pump into the tank and finish up the fuel lines. Sending the headers and downpipe off this week to get recoated and send a few more items out for powdercoat.

Re: Project Garnet Resto

Got a little bit done this week. Have been unable to get ahold of the painter on a status on it. Might just have to drop in and see what's going on. I gave him a deadline of the end of May when I dropped it off. Think we might be cutting it close on that.

Got the transfer case and front diff blasted and clearcoated and cleaned up. Got those in, and what a PITA the front diff is. Ended up pulling the engine back out of the truck to make it easier. Got some wiring ran for the Hobb switch for the Racetronix dual fuel pumps. It's ran totall inside the frame rails up until it gets to the front shock tower. Can't get it any further than that. And I didn't get a pic of the whole setup installed. Will get one next time I'm down at my dads. Turbo should be back from PTE getting rebuilt, and will install those. Also got a bunch more goodies on their way from Sportmachines that might be here later next week. If they get here in time, will try to have a lot more done next weekend.

Re: Project Garnet Resto

Think I've got about as much done as I can before the body gets back from paint. Which, he hasn't touched in several weeks. Hopefully he'll be spraying this week.

Had Renz make me up some braided hoses for the rear brakes. Working on brackets that'll hold the hoses to the rear diff.

Got the headers back from being recoated and the turbo back from Precision. The motor had been sitting for so long that the heat shield behind the exhaust wheel rusted to the exhaust housing.

Got the front axles installed.

And some carbon fiber goodness. VIS hood and core support from Mike King & Carbon34

Is that sticker on your ground wire a positive terminal symbol by mistake ? Make sure to scrape away some paint under the bolt head to minimize your ground resistance too. Power does travel through the grounds and those two pumps will need alot of it . Your Typhoon is looking great so far , you could eat off of that undercarriage .

Yeah, I believe that is a mistake. The paint was scraped off the frame below that bolt. It had now been painted over top of it.

Re: Project Garnet Resto

Stopped by the painters on Wednesday. Underside of the truck was painted. They sprayed the rest of the truck on Thursday. Should have the body back on the frame late next week and I cam start throwing the interior back in it.

Will have pics of the rest of the truck painted when I drop the chassis off.

Re: Project Garnet Resto

Just got these pics through text from the painter. Hasn't been wet sanded or buffed yet. That will hopefully be done by end of the week. I'm leaving for OH first thing Fri morning for the weekend, so might be early next week before I drop the chassis back off.

Not too happy about only taping up the tailgate handle, but we'll see how it turns out.
