Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

perhaps, what kind of build are you running?

Our build consists of:
Stock block
eagle rods
stock crank
.40 over hypers
stock cam
stock heads(smoothed out)
65# injectors
3 bar map
20g turbo
stock DP
3" cat back (gutted cat)
9/11 converter
tune with 15psi and 16*timing.

Pretty mild but I have laid out a 13.4 @99 with a 1.7 60' up here at 6000'.

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

well, i may end up having to go that route with the TC, I don't want to sacrifice my flash stall, and everyone seems to be able to live with a higher brake stall, and I suppose I don't have to push it to that rpm, I;m sure it will still launch fine.

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

Well, I ended up with a 2800 precision. I stressed to them as much I could how tight it had to be, and what I had seen there converters do. I am hoping I will be happy with my purchase. They said I would have it by the end of this week (amazing turn around). I should also have the engine back by the end of the week. This following weekend I will prolly start to do the prep work, getting ready to put the motor in, and then try to get it in over memorial day weekend. I'm not even gonna bolt the converter upto break in it. I'm gonna trailor it that tuesday (pending it being assembled) and have the local tranny pro bolt it up and check the line pressure and front pump to make sure its good to go before I ever drive it.

Hell, Im hoping I can even get it running with code 59 on the new motor, its got basically a new everything. By the way, any recomendations on plugs for the L-35's?

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

I could make something like happen if you were up for it, at least sometime during the weekend. I figured me doing it on mem weekend I would be alone. If a few guys wanna head over on any of those days let me know and I can get something together. Hell, with 2 or 3 of us we could prolly have it running in a day. also, while I'm putting the motor in there is also an alky control kit to be installed, and a battary relocation kit, as well as the rigging of some kinda new intake, which reminds me, how well do cobras work, and where can I get one for a 20G? also a tranny cooler if I can make it happen, but that can always happen another day.

Yea, I wasn;t expecting much of a turn out on this mem day weekend, if I could get one guy there who has some experiance it would help it go a bit faster, I wonder if it could be done in a day...

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

I managed to work on it friday night and saturday, but had a few issues. Friday I got the motor built up and ready to put in, things like the acessory brackets, mounts, intake, exhaust and turbo are on. I got an phone call from my engine builder early saturday morning telling me that he was worried about my rockers. He said that when he checked them that the lifters were not pumped up, and they may have been 'lieing' to him, and that the slots may not clear when the lefters are pumped up. so with that in mind saturday I decided taht I would pump the lifters up and check it. I had an issue with getting the remote oil lines to seal against the block, for some reason the fel-pro gasket stretched and allowed oil to come out of the bolt holes. Luckly autozone sells a HELP! oil line kit for the blazer right on the shelves and it includes a metal version of that gasket, which works great. after cleaning out all of my lines, plumbing my turbo and remote flter I primed the system for about 10 minutes, stopping every couple minutes to turn the motor over, but I had little luck with getting oil to pump out of the lifters and up the rods. I checked clearance of the rockers after this and they still seemed to clear, and I could get the lifter to give at all, no metter how hard I puched on it, so they could be pumped up, but I am still skeptical. I decided also to check my end lift on my valves using the springs as a referance and most were hanging around the .485 mark, which I think could be the fact that the factory stamped rockers are not a perfect 1.5 ratio, or my lifters are giving out. either way unless I hear some one who has run a stock rocker at that lift in the next day or so I;m gonna pull them out and have the slots machined.

But, I did managed to get the converter on, and the engine sitting on the mounts and mated with the transmission, which is at least decent progress. I'm planning on working on it next weekend, and hope to get it a bit more buttoned up. also, its been made a bit more ticky with the recent loss of my wheel hub key.

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

I bought a set of long slot guided rockers that should be here before the weekend, so that I don;t have to worry about binding them. Nothing fancy, just stamped steel 1.5;1 rockers. But, I should be able to get those on and lashed with no real trouble. Gonna be working on it as much as I can this weekend, can;t wait to be driving it again.

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

Well, I had some issues with installing the distributor on the TDC of the exhaust stroke, but after some repositioning the engine fired and seems to run very smoothly, which surprised me with the different cam and such, I adjusted the timing to 0 and it seems to start and idle nicely, although very rich, which again surprised me, I figured with the bigger cam and l-35 heads it would be super lean from the get go. If you recall, I doing somewhat of an experiment to see what the stock injectors can do.

I tried to do some initial tuning but I found that Turnerpro v5 that I downloaded to use on my LT1 overwrote my v4.xx that i was running, and v5 doesn't seem to work to well, so Im here downloading the older version, and thought Id update. as far as the alky control kit goes so far the only part installed is the nozzle in the IC and the hose leading from it to what is going to be the in line filter. I am awaiting a atr batt relocation so that I can install a cone filter where the battery is, and the catch-can to where the stock air-box currently is.

I am also concerned about my rockers, I am hoping that they will survive. stock with 500 lift is close to the limit, they looked alright when it was on the stand, but we shall see...

I do have two goofy issues as of right now, one being it looks like exhaust might be escaping from the center section of my turbo, where the exhaust side meets the bend, and the other is a strange metallic noise, that I will hear now and again. it doesn't seem to effect the motor, but I can;t tell. Infrequent and random, seems to happen when the motor is at about 2k.
