Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

big chunks of bronze looking material under the intake, I dropped it off at the builder today. He was dumbfounded as to how anything could have gone wrong, I have several datalogs that who it running fine. It just lost oil pressure for no understood reason and starting making an extra tic...he wants me to stop by later today and we together can tear the motor down.

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

the 2 center main bearings were gaulded, the rods look fine, and the front and rear mains don't look to bad either. I had my engine builder tear it apart (I wanted to preserve any info that was there) He said he's never seen anything like that after building a motor. the only thing we could come up with was a bent crank, but the crank had been turned, and the block line honed...

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

forgot to update this,

Me and my builder talked to a few crank specialists and found that the crank was balanced incorrectly. He says he will remachine everything for me, and I decided I'm going to rebuild the block again this time. I just...want to know its done perfectly this time.

Also, I'm concidering going to E-85 while its down...I'm not particuarly afraid of the tank, or the lines. I would likly just run an deatschwerks pump, and bigger injectors and a fuel filter. it would be around a 500 dollar investment, and should last a while depending on how the tank takes it....

Man... that sucks. At least you figured out what went (or was done) wrong.

thats the going theory, although it hasn't technically been proven. Should find out this coming week. Following which it will likely be a week or so of machining, and then me building it. Can't wait...

eastwood makes a coating for converting the steel tanks to run e85 you pour it in and shake the tank like a baby

I don't want a cell in my truck, its too nice a truck to put a cell into. Unless I could get something that went in to the stock location an accepted the sending unit...

also, on a serious note, would putting a cell into a blazer be a good idea, and would the best way to do it to have it in the floor? (I have another project I have been contemplating this with)

I don't think you have to firewall it as long as it is vented to the exterior. Too many people do them, their has to be a good way.

All sanctioning bodies require a fire wall or floor pan between driver and tank except demo derby and those are marine fuel tanks

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

well, I decided to keep it fuel/meth and bought some new injectors for the hell of it.

I have the motor back at this point with the exception of the crank, which is being internally balanced at a shop north of here a bit. I should have it back in a week or so. I am hoping this is the last time that it has to come apart.

I am also hoping that the HS blazer fufills my need of deadly speed, and I can take it a bit easyor on this truck. I know its fully capible of staying in the 11's, but keeping it in the low 12;s might help the whole thing last a little longer. I really do love this truck.

Re: Rebuilding Ty #284

started rebuilding the motor today, just about done. Came in for a sec to take a break, I'll post some pics up later. I am hoping to have it finished tonight, and maybe even in the truck tomorrow. with any luck I'll be doing some tuning this week.
