    Rebuilding front diff

Re: Rebuilding front diff I don't think I'd use the Locktite bearing lock in the case. That could pretty well ruin the case for future rebuilds. The bearing races are always loose in these. If they weren't then the spanners wouldn't be able to push the races to adjust the backlash and bearing...

    Rebuilding front diff

Re: Rebuilding front diff The 7.2 IFS on these trucks is one of the hardest differentials that I have rebuilt, and I've done several of them. There is very little access to the ring gear when trying to check the backlash and removing and installing the pinion to set the pinion depth is a pain...

    Removing the front diff?

Re: Removing the front diff? I pulled the front diff out of my 4X4 S10 to get the oil pan off. It was much easier than removing the engine. With the diff out of the way I had total access to the bottom of the engine.

    Diff replacement

Re: Diff replacement You can not change the differential without removing the case. This is a real pain to set up with the case out, and it would be impossible to set the backlash on the gears with it in the truck.

Buy a 12 bolt, or build the 10 bolt? Also, what vendors on here sell a 12 bolt?

Re: Buy a 12 bolt, or build the 10 bolt? Also, what vendors on here sell a 12 bolt? I have built several 12 bolt rear ends for these trucks, including the fastest and second fastest cars in Europe. The fastest is a Typhoon that I built about 2 years ago and the second fastest is the all wheel...

C3 all wheel drive corvette coming together...

Re: C3 all wheel drive corvette coming together... Mike, I also have a connection to the Vette. I built the front 7.2 IFS and the 12 bolt rear for this one and the Typhoon that they run.

    TxSy1430 front Diff replacement?? Maybe

Re: TxSy1430 front Diff replacement?? Maybe The 7.2 IFS is one of the most difficult differentials that I have built. It is hard to access the ring gear to check the backlash. Turning the ring gear to check the contact pattern is hard because it is inside the aluminum case with no way to get a...

    upgrade rear diff. cover ?

Re: upgrade rear diff. cover ? T/A Performance makes a heavy duty aluminum cover for the 7.5 rear end. It is about $165.

    Am I in trouble?

Re: Am I in trouble? The most common cause of front differential failure seems to be lack of oil. For some reason these trucks loose the oil out of the front differential more than anything else that I have seen.

    Front Diff Carnage (with pics)

Re: Front Diff Carnage (with pics) That round shaft is suppose to have teeth on it. :D I'm assuming that this was a 3.42. You can get the front diff out of a S series 4X4 with 3.42 gears and swap the right axle, axle tube and companion flange to install it in the Syclone.

Moser 12 Bolt rear end HELP!!!!

Re: Moser 12 Bolt rear end HELP!!!! Contact Phillip Long aka Turbo6 on this sight. I built one for him about 2 years ago. I think he slotted the holes in the lower plates to make the U bolts fit.

Rear End Noise, FIXED! DIY! 56k NO!

Re: Rear End Noise Re: Rear End Noise The GM limited slip additive is posi additive and it isn't needed in these rear ends with the Governor Lock differential. Your noise could be an axle bearing. The bearings are cheap, but you have to replace the axle too because the bearing eats into the axle.

    Bad limited slip?

Re: Bad limited slip? I also recommend the Eaton. The backlash will have to be checked and adjusted, but the pinion depth stays the same. Here is some informationn on changing the differential. This is for the 8.5, but it also allpies to the 7.5...

    Bad limited slip?

Re: Bad limited slip? I don't use the additive in rear ends with the Gov. Lock because the only time the clutches are applied is when you spin a tire and it locks up. Then you don't want the clutches to slip. Anyway, when you turn right is it at low speed? A car with a standard differential...

    Anyone changed gears?

Re: Anyone changed gears? I've changed 2 of them over to 3.08 gears. The differential case in the 7.2 IFS has to be changed to the 2 series. The 3.08 is the only gear that uses this differential case. The rear end is the same if you are still using the 7.5 10 bolt. The 3.42 uses a 3 series and...

    Capabilities of front diff?

Re: Capabilities of front diff? I agree. I don't think a 383 is going to break it unles you turbocharge it or use a large nitrous oxide kit on it. Most of these trucks run into the 9s with stock front differentials. The 7.2 IFS is a pain to rebuild.

    Capabilities of front diff?

Re: Capabilities of front diff? I deburr and polish the differential case to reduce the chances of a crack forming. I also deburr the gears, but that is about all that you can do. Be sure that all parts are in very good condition. Any wear or rust can cause weak spots. You could go with some...

    Rear differential HELP!!!...

Re: Rear differential HELP!!!... I'm building 2 12 bolt rear ends for Syclones right now. I'm amazed at how well the 7.5 holds up in these trucks. I'm even more amazed at how well the little 7.2 IFS holds up. A larger rear end is usually the best way to go when parts start to break. If the...
