I have heard that por-15 doesn't adhere well to sandblasted metal. It can come off pretty easy. I guess it works better on rusty material. Not sure if its true or not since I have no experience with it. The project looks great and congrats on getting it all done so far.

I know it doesn't stick well to clean metal, in fact Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator paint does a better job on clean metals. Sandblasted surfaces I haven't tried either on.

why havent you let the sandblasting company put paint on it? i've had a few projects sandblasted and let them primer it afterwards, they do a good job for not too much money imo

I'm gettin syched with the progress, and I just wanted to let you know that I would be happy to help wrench on it. I could probably persuade WhiteTyAffair to come help also. We may not have "Jimmy's" expertise, but we can drink some beer. :tup:

Once it gets back from paint, they'll be lots of work to do. Might be nice to have another SyTy to look at as reference since it's been apart for almost 8 years and I'm sure I won't remember where anything goes.

News to me. I'll give them a call next week and see what they say. Worst case, I'll drive it around on an open trailer with all the salt on the road, shouldn't take long to rust up.

APPLICATION OF POR-15® TO NEW METAL

For proper adhesion to aluminum, galvanized metal, and smooth steel surfaces, prep with POR-15® METAL-READYT Rust Remover/PrePrimer. Keep surface wet for 15 minutes, then rinse off with water and dry thoroughly. This process will leave a zinc phosphate coating on the metal and insure perfect adhesion.

Figured we'd chime in on the POR15 info. Thats what we use on the all the frames for resto/restomod. We clean and wash the frame, sandblast, prep with POR's products, por coat, then por top coat. The key with POR is all the prep. It loves rusted surfaces, with prep cause the acid etch, combined with the rough rusted surface give it more area to bind to. Thats why it doesn't like clean metal, not enough binding surface area. Sandblasting gives it all kinds of nooks and crannies to stick to, so after proper cleaning, degreasing, etching then coating, its a durable, good looking finish. Some argue about the top coat, esp since the frame wont see much UV. we always top coat, because at that point, it doesn't take much more time, or material to top coat it and ensure a nice finish that will last. Hope that helps!

POR15 has been applied. Top coat will go on tomorrow. Hoping to have all the powdercoated stuff back tomorrow as well. Then, FINALLY, after almost 8 years in pieces, reassmbly will begine this weekend.

Finally got all the powdercoating back last week. I had a packed weekend with a wedding, surprise 60th birthday party for my mom, and a 3rd birthday party for my son, but my dad was fortunate to get a lot done. All the suspension is pretty much done and most of the new stainless fuel and brakes lines from Sportmachines is installed. I'll head down one day this week after work and finish up the brakes to make sure everything fits and install all the steering components. Will have to take the brakes back off so I can throw the stock wheels back on before it goes off for paint. My dad took these pics with his shitty camera. I'll get better ones this week. Hopefully it'll be off to paint in a couple weeks as long as the paint guy doesn't push me off again.

Ignore the nasty OE diff cover. I have a nice powdercoated engraved one that hasn't been put on yet.

I did the arms, fuel tank, and rear diff cover in a gray that was as close to the cladding color as I could get. Powercoated the C5 Z06 calipers as close to the Garnet color as I could find. Will have pics of those later this week.
